Maria Fernandez
Maria Fernandez, a seasoned and dedicated Pilates instructor with over 20 years of experience, brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to Red Sky. Born and raised in Madrid, Spain, Maria’s journey with Pilates began after a serious neck injury led her to discover the transformative power of the practice. Adding to her extensive experience in Pilates, Maria takes a personalized, fascia-informed, and integrated approach to guiding her clients toward improved physical and mental wellbeing. Her work is grounded in the principles of biotensegrity, viewing the body as an interconnected system rather than isolated parts. "Biotensegrity" is a term coined in the 1970s by Washington, DC based orthopedic surgeon Dr. Stephen Levin.
Maria is also a Functional Medicine Certified Health Coach (FMCHC), which allows her to expand her work beyond movement by integrating nutrition, lifestyle, stress management, and behavior changes into a comprehensive approach to health. This combination enables. her to support clients not only in how they move, but also in how they feel, recover, and perform in their daily lives. Having owned two Pilates studios in the past—one in Madrid, Spain, and the other in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan—Maria understands the importance of creating a welcoming and inclusive community. She excels in designing both broad and highly individualized programs, ranging from rehabilitation for the general population to performance focused training for professional athletes. Her commitment to ongoing education and research, including mentorship programs led by world-renowned experts such as Wendy LeBlanc-Arbuckle and Jaap van der Wal, further distinguishes her as a knowledgeable and compassionate instructor.
Maria is deeply passionate about supporting individuals on their health journey, helping them build resilience, restore balance, and achieve lasting well-being and happiness.
